The “mystery” of “Z” and “V”
As much as everyone opposed to Putin’s regime wants to believe that Z is a simplified 21st century Nazi Swastika, or a flipped and rotated ⚡︎⚡︎, I think it’s much simpler than that.
Also, that has already been done… Ay the aZoV Battalion…
(Yes, I could also make a case that they stand for Ⓥladimir Ⓩelensky, but that’s just silly, right?)
In fact, there have already been two previous “Liberations of Donbass” — one in 1919 during the Russian Civil War, and the other in 1943 during WWII.
Particularly during the second one, the Soviet Union introduced the “westwards” (На Запад!) ideology, in large part as a counter to the German Drang nach Osten (“push eastwards”) and in part as a call to bring Western Ukraine back under its wing.
In fact, some tanks might have carried the latin “Z” in place of the cyrillic “З”
Also, ZVylʹnennya means “liberation” in ukrainian…
